Custom in the list and type it in.
How to use the Passport Seva photo resizer
- Keep Passport Seva photo selected, choose a photo taken against a plain white background, and frame it so the face is centred and the top of the head to the chin takes about 70–80% of the height.
- Download — a 630 × 810 px JPEG between 10 and 250 KB.
- For the signature, choose Custom, type 630 × 300 px, max 100 KB, switch to Signature mode and choose the photo of your signature.
- Upload both in the online application form at passportindia.gov.in before paying the fee; a live photo is taken again at the appointment.
Why uploads get rejected — and the fix
| Rejection reason | Fix |
|---|
| 'Please upload an image of 630 × 810 pixels' | Use the preset — it outputs exactly 630 × 810 |
| Photo rejected for off-white or patterned background | Stand 1 m in front of a white wall in daylight; avoid shadows |
| Glasses, teeth showing or tilted head | ICAO rules: neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open, no spectacles, head straight |
| Baby photo rejected | For infants, a white sheet background with eyes open and no toys or hands in the frame is accepted |
| Signature too small in the box | Choose Signature mode so the signature is scaled up to fill the frame |
What else to prepare for the Passport Seva appointment
The online photo is used for the application record; the photo printed in the passport is taken at the Passport Seva Kendra. Carry the originals of your proof of address (Aadhaar, utility bill, bank passbook), proof of date of birth (birth certificate, 10th certificate, Aadhaar) and, for re-issue, the old passport. The appointment confirmation and ARN print-out are needed at the gate. Minors need both parents' documents and Annexure D on plain paper.
Tips and common mistakes
- Keep the original high-resolution photo; make a fresh resized copy for every form — do not resize an already-resized file.
- A plain white or light background, face straight to the camera, no cap or dark glasses, and 70–80% of the frame filled by the face is accepted by every board.
- Photograph the signature in daylight on plain white paper with a black pen; choose Signature mode so nothing is cropped off.
- Other forms: SSC · IBPS / SBI · PAN card · UPSC · NEET / JEE / CUET · RRB · EPFO / UAN · all presets.
