Writing amounts in words
Cheques, demand drafts, rent agreements, invoices and school fee receipts all need the amount in words. The Indian system reads 1,25,000 as one lakh twenty-five thousand, while the international system reads 125,000 as one hundred twenty-five thousand.
Cheque tips
- Write the amount in words followed by "only": "Rupees One Lakh Twenty-Five Thousand Only".
- Paise go after "and": "Rupees Five Hundred and Fifty Paise Only" for ₹500.50.
- Start writing at the far left and strike through leftover space.
