Frequently asked questions
Are rent receipts mandatory for HRA?
Employers ask for them when monthly rent is above about ₹3,000. Keep them for the tax department too, along with bank proof of payment.
Do I need a rent agreement as well?
Many employers accept receipts alone for smaller claims, but a registered or notarised agreement strengthens larger claims and is often asked for above ₹8,000–₹10,000 a month.
Is a revenue stamp required?
It is customary on cash receipts above ₹5,000 under the Stamp Act in several states. Digital or bank-transfer receipts usually do not need one.
Can I generate receipts for past months?
Yes — set the starting month to any past month and the number of months you need; one receipt per month is created.
