Timing
A dash is three times as long as a dot. Letters are separated by a gap of three dots, words by seven dots. SOS (· · · — — — · · ·) is the universal distress signal because it is easy to recognise.
Morse is still used by amateur radio operators, in aviation beacons, and as a fun way to send secret messages.
