How to calculate percentage of marks
Percentage = (Marks obtained ÷ Total marks) × 100Example: you scored 432 out of 500. 432 ÷ 500 = 0.864, × 100 = 86.4%.
Subject-wise example
| Subject | Marks | Out of |
|---|---|---|
| English | 82 | 100 |
| Hindi / Telugu | 88 | 100 |
| Maths | 95 | 100 |
| Science | 90 | 100 |
| Social Science | 77 | 100 |
| Total | 432 | 500 |
432 ÷ 500 × 100 = 86.4%. If the maximum marks differ between subjects (say a 50-mark practical), simply add up all marks obtained and all maximum marks before dividing — the calculator does this automatically.
What is CBSE "best of 5"?
When a student has six or more subjects, CBSE and many admission forms calculate the percentage using the best five subjects. Tick CBSE best of 5 and the calculator picks your five highest-scoring subjects automatically. Some colleges insist that English or a language must be one of the five — check the rules of the form you're filling.
Percentage to CGPA (approximate)
To estimate a CBSE-style CGPA, divide the percentage by 9.5 (86.4% ÷ 9.5 ≈ 9.1). For the general 10-point rule divide by 10. For university-specific conversions use the CGPA to percentage calculator in reverse mode.
