What the text cleaner fixes

Extra spaces — double spaces and tabs become one space.
Line breaks — text copied from PDFs breaks every line; "Remove all line breaks" joins it into paragraphs.
Empty lines and duplicate lines in lists.
HTML tags left over from copied web pages.
Smart quotes (“ ”) and long dashes that break code or forms.
Special characters and numbers when you only want plain words.
Sort lines alphabetically — handy for name lists.

Cleaning happens in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere. Then count it with the word counter or fix capitals with the case converter.

Paste text copied from a PDF, WhatsApp, a scanned document or a web page into the 'Messy text' box.
Tick what to fix: extra spaces, spaces at line ends, empty lines, or all line breaks (to turn a broken PDF paragraph into one flowing paragraph).
The clean text appears on the right as you tick options.
Copy it into Word, Google Docs or your email.

PDF copies arrive with a line break at the end of every printed line and double spaces after full stops.
Tick 'Remove all line breaks' — the lines join into paragraphs. If the PDF had real paragraphs separated by blank lines, tick 'Remove empty lines' off so they stay separate.
Tick 'Remove extra spaces' to collapse double spaces and the stray spaces before commas.
Paste into your document; apply your own font — PDF text often carries hidden formatting that this step strips.

Non-breaking spaces ( ) and tab characters from web pages that look like spaces but break search-and-replace.
Smart quotes and dashes copied from Word can be kept or normalised — tick the option when pasting into code or a form that rejects them.
Zero-width and invisible characters that make 'identical' strings fail to match (see the Invisible Text tester).
Trailing spaces at the end of lines in code and CSV files that cause failed imports.

Government portals often reject pasted addresses because of hidden characters — clean the text first, then paste.
For a list with repeated items use the Remove Duplicate Lines tool after cleaning.
To change capitalisation after cleaning, send the text to the Case Converter.

How do I remove line breaks from text copied from a PDF?

Paste it, tick 'Remove all line breaks' and copy the result.

How do I remove extra spaces between words?

'Remove extra spaces' is on by default — just paste your text.

Can I remove duplicate lines from a list?

Yes, tick 'Remove duplicate lines'. Tick 'Sort lines' too for an alphabetical list.
