Lorem ipsum placeholder text

Generate any number of paragraphs, sentences or words of classic Lorem ipsum for website mock-ups, Word or Canva layouts, print proofs and app screens — so the design is judged on layout, not on the words. Tick the HTML option to get ready <p> tags for a CMS.

What does lorem ipsum mean?

It is scrambled Latin from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC), used by printers since the 1500s because its letter distribution looks like real English prose without distracting the reader. "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit…" roughly starts as "pain itself…" but the text is intentionally meaningless.

Frequently asked questions

Is lorem ipsum real Latin?

It is based on a passage by Cicero but words were cut and jumbled, so it has no coherent meaning.

How many words are in a paragraph here?

Paragraphs vary between 40 and 80 words, like real text; the counter shows the exact totals.

Can I generate a specific number of words?

Yes — choose Words and enter the number, for example 100 or 500.
