How the 7th CPC salary is calculated
Central government pay is read from the 7th CPC pay matrix: pick your level (Level 1 to Level 18) and the cell you have reached through annual increments. Each cell is 3% above the previous one, rounded to the nearest ₹100. On top of basic pay you get:
- Dearness allowance (DA) — 60% of basic from 1 January 2026 (58% from July 2025, 55% from January 2025). It is revised twice a year with the AICPI index.
- House rent allowance (HRA) — 30% (X cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune), 20% (Y cities) or 10% (Z cities) of basic, since DA crossed 50%.
- Transport allowance (TA) — ₹1,350/₹900 for Levels 1–2, ₹3,600/₹1,800 for Levels 3–8 and ₹7,200/₹3,600 for Level 9 and above (higher figure for TPTA cities), plus DA on it.
Deductions: NPS 10% of basic + DA (for employees who joined after 2004), CGHS subscription and income tax. The result here is before income tax — run it through the income tax calculator.
